Elena wanted to prove that sustainable skincare could compete on performance, not just ethics. Her brand Terra Skincare would be entirely plastic-free — from the bottle to the label to the shipping carton.

The challenge was finding packaging that maintained product stability. Glass and aluminum work for some formulations but not others — especially products with light-sensitive actives like vitamin C and retinol.

Skincraftlab's packaging team sourced and tested 12 packaging configurations, ultimately selecting airless aluminum bottles with inner BPA-free liners for serums, recyclable glass jars for creams, and FSC-certified cartons for all secondary packaging. Each configuration was tested for leak resistance, light protection, and 24-month shelf stability.

The formulations themselves were adjusted for the new packaging — preservative systems were optimized for airless dispensing, and antioxidants were added to compensate for the minimal light exposure during transport.

Terra Skincare launched at a Berlin sustainability trade show and immediately attracted interest from 15 EU retailers. Within 12 months, the brand was generating €50,000/month in revenue across the Netherlands, Germany, and France. Elena's next project: a refill program using compostable pouches.
