From Concept to Shelf: Building a Hair Care Line for the Middle East
Cultural adaptation, Halal certification, and a 6-SKU launch in the UAE
Layla identified a gap in the Middle Eastern market: premium Halal-certified hair care that didn't compromise on efficacy or aesthetics. Most Halal products in the region were positioned as budget or medical — she wanted luxury.
The requirements were specific: no alcohol, no animal-derived ingredients (beyond what Halal permits), sustainable packaging, and full SASO/GSO compliance for Saudi and UAE markets.
Skincraftlab's R&D team developed 6 custom formulations from scratch — a strengthening shampoo, silicone-free conditioner, leave-in serum, hair mask, scalp treatment, and styling cream. Each formula was designed to perform in high-humidity climates while maintaining Halal integrity.
We coordinated the Halal certification process in parallel with formulation development, so by the time samples were approved, the certification was ready. SASO documentation was prepared for Saudi customs clearance.
Nura Beauty launched in Dubai with 3 retail partners. Within 12 months, they expanded to 8 stores across UAE and Saudi Arabia. The Halal certification — often seen as a barrier — became their strongest marketing asset.
